Department Overview


 


Credit Risk Management (CRM), as the second line of defense, is a key function in protecting and making sure that we take prudent risk for Nomura. The group evaluates transactions and approves, rejects, or modifies them depending on the credit quality of each counterparty and structure. The department also assigns internal credit ratings, and establishes and manages credit risk limits in accordance with the risk tolerance.


 


The Corporate / Structured Credit Risk Team is looking for a dynamic individual at the Vice President level to support coverage of Nomura’s Trade Finance businesses. 


 


 


Role Description


 



  • Analyze credit risk from structured credit transactions primarily related to the Trade Finance product, primarily consisting of receivables / payables / inventory financing

  • Strong emphasis in energy related sector (i.e., oil and gas, oil field services) and commodity trading sectors

  • Scope of work includes, but is not limited to, counterparty credit risk, deal structure, facility legal terms and conditions, coordinating credit approval processes

  • The position will have a leadership role in analyzing and assigning internal credit ratings, and evaluating major risks and risk mitigants of new transactions, including presenting Credit Risk’s recommendation both to senior Risk management leadership and in credit approval committees

  • Propose structure changes for new / existing transactions as required to manage higher risk situations or those that are experiencing negative credit trends

  • Provide feedback on structuring of key commercial / legal terms in conjunction with other control areas including Legal / Finance

  • Participated in or lead counterparty due diligence discussions conducted via calls and on-site visits with clients’ or borrowers’ management teams

  • Track developments related to regulatory, Industry, Counterparty, external ratings and carrying out appropriate action

  • Participate in various firm wide projects within Risk and Business colleagues across regions, including regular and ad-hoc portfolio / limit reviews

  • Ability to mentor and support development of junior members of the team


 


 


Skills, Experience, Qualifications and Knowledge Required


 



  • Minimum 7 years of Credit Risk experience within credit risk covering the trade / receivables financing product

  • Strong understanding of asset based lending and corporate credit

  • Strong written / verbal communication skills, including experience in discussions with Senior Risk Management personnel and responses to regulatory requests

  • Ability to effectively manage due diligence processes and strong analytical skills with respect to borrower financial data and loan portfolio performance metrics  

  • Strong familiarity with corporate financial statement analysis and credit risk metrics

  • Understanding credit and trading documentation (e.g. Credit Agreements, ISDAs) and experience negotiating credit terms for legal documentation a plus

  • Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment

  • Comfort interacting with the relevant business areas and coordinating between Risk Management areas and Front Office desks

  • Advising and/or assisting deal teams in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment with the ability to prioritize and complete tasks according to project needs

  • Leveraging effective business writing and verbal skills, including leveraging negotiation and consensus building to achieve results

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance preferred


 


*base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, corporate and functional title and duties, job-related knowledge and advanced degrees, skills, and experience.
