The Director of the Center for Global Engagement plays a pivotal role in enhancing the experience of international students. Reporting to the Interim Associate Provost, this individual will lead a team dedicated to providing comprehensive support services to ensure the success and well-being of our international student population and Carlow students engaging in study abroad activities. Priority will be given to qualified candidates who submit their application prior to the September 6, 2024 deadline, but review will continue until the position is filled
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Develop and implement strategies to recruit, support, and retain international students, ensuring their seamless integration into the academic and social fabric of the institution.
- Serve as the primary point of contact and advocate for international students.
- Collaborate with admissions and enrollment management teams to streamline the international student admissions process, including application review, serving as the DSO/PDSO, and orientation programs.
- Cultivate partnerships and collaborations with relevant campus departments, community organizations, governmental agencies, and third-party providers to enhance international opportunities.
- Managing the business of the CGE including personnel, budgets, itineraries, promotional materials, global learning events, and contracts (third-party vendors, travel insurance, residency fees, etc.).
- Manage and review the study abroad application process.
- Meet with and advise students on pursing study abroad and study away opportunities.
- Assist students in identifying and applying for appropriate scholarship. Update the scholarship opportunity programs, deadlines, and requirements, including the Vira I. Heinz scholarship.
- Act as a representative of the CGE at recruitment events (activity fair, freshmen orientation, etc.).
- Collaborate with faculty to prepare them to develop new and lead existing faculty-led study abroad experiences.
- Work directly with Student Hub (student accounts/registrar/financial aid) to ensure billing, registration and application of funds for experiences are processed correctly.
- Stay abreast of trends, best practices, and regulatory changes in international education and immigration policies, and recommend adjustments to institutional policies and procedures as necessary.
- Prepare reports and presentations for the President’s Executive Council and other internal and external stakeholders.
- Serve as the advisor of record for the Global Citizens Club (this includes both undergraduate and graduate students).
NON-ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Other related duties assigned, based on the needs of the Center for Global Engagement.
- Some travel is expected.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
- Demonstrated knowledge of immigration regulations, visa processes, and compliance requirements for international students.
- Strong intercultural communication and cross-cultural competency skills.
- Excellent written and oral communication, organizational, problem-solving, and budget planning and management skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders, including students, faculty, staff, and external partners.
- Ability to travel and lead study abroad activities as needed, including in developing countries.
- Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion, with a passion for supporting the success and well-being of international students, and Carlow students studying abroad.
MINIMUM EDUCATION LEVEL REQUIRED:
- Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree in international education, higher education administration, intercultural studies, or related field preferred.
MINIMUM RELATED EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in international student services, international admissions, or related field within a higher education setting.
- Proven leadership experience, with the ability to motivate and supervise a diverse team.
- Demonstrated experience working with diverse populations.
