Position Summary:


The Director, International Sales is responsible for developing and executing strategic sales plans to drive growth and achieve revenue targets in the international market. This role involves leading and managing an international channel sales team, building and maintaining relationships with key customers and international distributors, and overseeing overseas sales operations. This position reports directly to the President.


 


Key Responsibilities:


Strategic Planning



  • Develop and implement international sales and marketing strategies to achieve business objectives and revenue targets.

  • Analyze market trends, customer needs, and competitive landscape to identify growth opportunities and areas for improvement.

  • Collaborate with executive leadership to align sales and marketing efforts with the company’s overall strategic goals.




Customer and Distributor Relationship Management



  • Enhance customer and international distributor satisfaction by ensuring high-quality service and support.

  • Implement customer and international distributor feedback mechanisms to improve products and services.


 


Sales Leadership



  • Lead and manage the international channel sales team, setting performance targets and ensuring the team meets or exceeds sales goals.

  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with key customers and international distributors.

  • Oversee the sales pipeline, forecast sales, and report on performance metrics.

  • Assist and present training presentations to customer and distributors to increase product knowledge and awareness.




Marketing Strategy



  • Develop and execute marketing campaigns to promote products and services, increase brand awareness, and generate leads.

  • Collaborate with the Marketing team to prepare marketing materials, including brochures, presentations, and digital content.

  • Collaborate with the Marketing team to gather insights and feedback from customers, international distributors, and industry experts.


 


Team Development



  • Recruit, train, and mentor international channel sales staff, fostering a high-performance culture and professional growth.

  • Provide guidance and support to team members, encouraging collaboration and innovation.

  • Perform technical and task-oriented functions as needed to support productivity of the department.




Cross-Functional Collaboration



  • Work closely with other departments, such as marketing, product development, R&D, shipping, operations, technical support, and finance, to ensure alignment and support for sales and marketing initiatives.




Reporting and Analysis



  • Analyze sales and marketing data to track performance, identify trends, and make data-driven decisions.

  • Prepare and present reports to senior management on sales and marketing activities and outcomes.


 


Qualifications:


Education



  • Bachelor’s Degree: A degree in life sciences, biology, biochemistry, or a related field is

  • Advanced Degree (preferred): An MBA, a master's degree or PhD degree in life science is strongly preferred

  • Technical Knowledge: Understanding of the scientific and technical aspects of life science products and services.


 


Experience



  • Industry Experience: 5-10 years in a management role in the life sciences industry, with a deep understanding of the market, products, and customer needs.

  • Sales Experience: Proven track record of successful sales leadership, including experience in developing and implementing sales strategies and achieving revenue targets.

  • International Experience: Experience in managing sales teams and operations across multiple regions and cultures

  • Leadership Experience: Demonstrated ability to lead and develop high-performing sales teams, with experience in mentoring and coaching staff.

  • Strategic Thinking: Ability to develop and execute strategic sales plans that align with business goals and market opportunities.

  • Communication Skills: Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively present ideas and negotiate with stakeholders. Sensitivity to cultural differences.

  • Analytical Skills: Ability to analyze market trends, sales data, and competitive dynamics to make informed decisions.

  • Relationship Building: Strong interpersonal skills to build and maintain relationships with key customers, international distributors, and internal teams.

  • Adaptability: Flexibility to adapt to changing market conditions and business priorities.






Additional Requirements



  • Travel: Willingness to travel internationally to meet with customers, attend industry events, and oversee international sales operations. Estimated at <5% of time.

  • Willingness to meet with international customers and distributors outside of regular working hours as needed, due to time zone differences.
