Overview
Part of the Supply Chain Team, you are the driving force that coordinates the end-to-end flow of materials, information, and resources, from suppliers to customers. This role encompasses demand forecasting, procurement, production planning, and supplier relationships. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of supply chain principles, exceptional leadership and problem-solving skills, and the ability to enhance efficiency and reduce costs.
Responsibilities
The Import Specialist will be responsible for ensuring proper classification and import requirements are assigned to individual parts crossing international borders. Should there be any missing data elements or clarification needed at time of import, this individual will act as the primary point of contact for customs brokers. The Import Specialist will use their research and analytical skills daily in order to play a vital role in the larger Trade Compliance team. This position is remote and will operate during standard EST business hours.
Responsibilities
- Act as primary point of contact for brokers where there are shipment specific questions/holds
- Research part details in order to accurately determine the form, fit and function of products that are being imported and exported
- Utilize USHTS, legal notes, explanatory notes, existing customs rulings and other tools to arrive at a reasonable classification
- Create audit trails to explain classification logic and justify classification
- Research requirements of other government agencies
- Determine if OGA requirements are applicable
- Obtain necessary compliance statements and details and generate audit trails to support determination
- Work cross-functionally with Finance, Supply Chain, Procurement/Engineering for continuous improvement INI
Qualifications
- Remote in the Eastern or Central Time zone
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent related experience
- 4+ years customs compliance experience
- Strong written and oral communication skills
- Strong understanding of Harmonized Tariff Schedule (HTS)
- Strong understanding of classification logic, HTS Legal Notes, WCO Explanatory notes
- Strong understanding of current and emerging policy and regulatory change including Section 301 & 232
- Knowledge of government agencies such as EPA and FDA. Knowledge of how to research PGA/OGA flags at time of import
- Knowledge of Title 19 of the Code of Federal Regulations, ability to research and interpret sections of the regulations and appropriately apply to daily tasks
- Experience with classifications under US Harmonized Tariff Schedule, Schedule B, and CBSA
- Proficiency in Excel and Access
- SAP experience preferred
- GTS experience a plus
- Licensed Customs Broker and/or Certified Customs Specialist Preferred
- Spanish language skills a plus
Hiring Range
The Hiring Salary Range for this position is
$46,000.00 - $75,000.00 annually.
(Salary offer to be determined by the applicant’s education, experience, knowledge, skills, location, and abilities, as well as internal equity and alignment with market data.)
