Conducts inspections in food establishments, schools, daycares, and foster homes in accordance with Texas Food Establishment Rules (TEFR) and other relevant rules and regulations. Provides food handler trainings, responds to environmental health complaints, and remains on stand-by for emergency sanitation and prevention control.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

The intent of this job description is to provide a representative summary of the major duties and responsibilities performed by employees in this job. Employees may be requested to perform job-related tasks other than those specifically presented in this description.

• Conducts food establishment inspections for restaurants, and food trucks.
• Conducts food inspections in schools, daycares, and foster homes.
• Facilitates food handler classes.
• Responds to City complaints in reference to environmental health issues from public (311 calls).
• Monitors and inspects illegal food activities.
• Serves as sanitation prevention and control expert for all public health emergencies; maintains sanitation at all shelters during an emergency and/or City event.
• Will be required to drive City vehicle for City business use
• Performs related work as required

• Knowledge of modern office procedures and methods including computers and applicable software
• Knowledge of English grammar, spelling, and punctuation
• Knowledge of TFER (Texas Food Establishment Rules)
• Knowledge of food safety practices, general sanitation, environmental health, and communicable disease control
• Knowledge of Food and Drug Code and Texas Administrative Code

Required Experience and Education

• Bachelor's degree from an accredited* college or university in Biology, Chemistry, or a related field
• At least one (1) year of experience in environmental administration, lab testing, or related experience

Proof of TB Test/Screening will be required to be presented prior to employment

• Valid Texas Driver License. If applicant holds an out-of-state license, a State of Texas Driver License must be obtained within 6 months of employment.

• Registered Professional Sanitarian must be obtained within 24 months of employment**
