Job Summary: 

As a Senior Procurement Specialist at SBM Life Science, you will play a vital role in ensuring the continuity of packaging and raw material supply to our domestic manufacturing sites. Your main responsibilities include building relationships with suppliers, negotiating pricing and terms, working with internal and external teams to reduce costs and maintaining inventory levels through weekly procurement activities are all part of the role. Purchasing categories include active ingredients, chemicals, corrugated shippers/materials, cartons, labels, etc. If you are seeking to join a great team and a role where you have a direct impact on business success this is the role for you! 

 Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in supply chain, business, operations management or related field 
  • 7+ years of experience in sourcing and procurement in a manufacturing environment
  • Proven track record in strategic sourcing, supplier negotiation, and contract management. 
  • Experience working with MRP/ERP systems 
  • Strong analytical skills and advanced Excel proficiency (pivot tables, VLOOKUP, macros)

Required Skillset:

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills to represent SBM to various suppliers/ external resources and internal departments
  • Strong attention to detail and organization skills
  • Ability to multi-task and manage multiple sourcing projects 
  • Ability to partner with suppliers to manage supply constraints or disruptive situations.

Traveling Requirements:

This role requires occasional travel, about 10-15% yearly to support business needs. All travel is reimbursed according to our expense policy.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

  • Deliver cost savings initiatives and adhere to budgetary guidelines
  • Drive decreases in total cost of ownership for materials procured.
  • Analyze and detail the environmental factors impacting each category (economy, industry, company), and identify and develop cost reduction initiatives. 
  • Assemble cross-functional teams to determine current state of material supply, determine future needs, determine gaps between current state and future state (needs), and develop plan to close those gaps.
  • Highly organized and able to lead and manage projects.
  • Lead evaluation of supplier capabilities, cost structure, risks, and partnership potential to determine supply base.
  • Drive supplier relationship management efforts for key suppliers on an ongoing basis to measure supplier performance and evaluate potential opportunities.
  • Daily management of purchasing activities including resolution of issues, timely action to MRP, PO management and invoice reconciliation.
  • Performs a range of expediting responsibilities such as reviewing purchase order expected receipt reports to ensure timely delivery of materials and supplies.
  • Interfaces with vendors on past due deliveries, mitigates delayed receipts and provides information to internal customers related to delivery dates.
  • Maintains and/or assists in the maintenance of purchase order files and records.
  • Investigates and corrects purchasing and invoicing discrepancies.
