Wayfair is seeking a relentlessly curious, solutions-oriented Senior Data Scientist to join the Global Planning & Analytics team. This team provides thought leadership and analytical rigor needed to drive our rapidly evolving Wayfair Professional & Global sales teams.
The Global Planning & Analytics team is responsible for analyzing customer behavior, sales and operational performance to provide visibility, test and optimize strategic business initiatives. The team is highly cross-functional and works closely with Product Management, Engineering, Data Science, Field operation, Marketing and Storefront to grow the Wayfair Professional & Global sales teams. Specifically, the Managed Program Analytics team exists to drive optimal decision-making that improves our business customers’ FF&E shopping experience through Sales interactions. We seek to identify opportunities and provide actionable and strategic recommendations based on hard data to grow revenue and improve efficiency.
In this role, you will be a key contributor and assist with business insights for the Wayfair Professional & Global sales teams. This role requires a blend of strong communication, strong analytical experience, stakeholder management and business acumen. All these skill sets will be applied in tandem with understanding customer behavior and business performance to drive revenue growth, better customer experience, operational efficiency and profitability. You will think critically to tackle complex challenges in a fast-paced and high-growth environment.
What you’ll do:
- Solve difficult, non-routine analysis problems with deep customer focus, applying advanced analytical methods and recommending innovative approaches as needed
- Build a strong understanding of Wayfair professional & B2C sales operations along with KPIs that impact overall business performance such as efficiency, conversion rates etc.
- Work with several large and complex databases using Google Big Query including sales, product, and customer data to synthesize insights used for decision-making; providing actionable takeaways and point of view when presenting business cases to senior leadership
- Collaborate with Data Science, Infrastructure, and other Analytics teams using tools such as SQL, Excel, Looker, and Google Data Studio to deliver real-time performance data to the business leadership team, formulate hypotheses, develop models and socialize recommendations that address strategic and operational challenges
- Take initiative to dive deeper and understand the logic behind data science models that influence customer targeting, call routing, customer valuation etc
- Oversee advanced analytics completed by junior team members, coaching and improving analytic code and output as needed
What you’ll need:
- Master's and/or Bachelor’s degree in a quantitative field
- Professional experience in writing code in structured programming languages (Python, R), writing scripts using GBQ or SQL, creating Pivot Tables and VLOOKUP's in Google Sheets or Excel, and using data visualization tools such as Data Studio, Looker, Tableau or PowerBI
- Post-graduate work in related field, preferred
- Prior management consulting experience or internship, a plus
- Strong analytical background and 2+ years of experience in extracting insights and operating with large data sets to identify trends and actionable takeaways
- Excellent communication, both written and verbally
- Collaborative mindset that thrives as part of a team
- Data and process-oriented, demonstrated ability to continuously learn new tools
- High attention to detail and proven ability to manage multiple, competing priorities simultaneously
- Ability to navigate an environment of continuous improvement working through ambiguity in an evolving organization
The salary range for this position is $121,000-132,000 however, base pay offered may vary depending on location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. We do not offer RSUs, equity or bonuses for this position.
