Position Overview


The Sr. Director of Global Supply Chain is responsible for managing global strategic commodities, negotiation strategies and global sourcinginitiatives and developing and executing long-term supplier strategy deployment, supplier cost modeling, cost reductions, supplier opportunity assessments, supplier financial analysis, negotiations, long-term contracts, continue to monitor and manage supply chain risk, insourcing or outsourcing decisions, continuous supplier performance improvement, and supplier relationship development for Outset Medical. 



Essential Functions and Responsibilities:



  • Responsibility to evaluate current state and develop, improve and execute a world class commodity/supply chain strategy to improve quality, cost, delivery, and financial performance.  

  • Responsibilities include but not limited to supplier selection/de-selection, evaluation and supply base rationalization; Material Management solutions, including Vendor Managed Inventory, spares and trunk stock; lowest total cost, Kitting, Raw Materials, Integration strategies; Deployment of Outset’s supplier agreements to the supply base. Also responsible for new part and supplier sourcing.  

  • Direct responsibility/ownership of product specific Material Savings goals. Work with manufacturing partners, sourcing manager, Site Leadership and Focus Factory teams to choose/develop sources that meet both ramp, cost and lead time goals, support inventory goals and scale capacity.  

  • Incorporates effective planning and project management to develop strategic commodity strategies that include: Domestic and International Sources, identification of strategic partners and maintain and exit suppliers, insourcing where appropriate 

  • Negotiates long term agreements with best in class price, payment terms, quality levels, and delivery terms for purchased products in compliance with corporate objectives 

  • Manages risk by establishing supplier business continuity plans and identifying, forecasting and minimizing financial risk through the balance sheet review process.

  • Reviews and plans cost reduction and cost avoidance strategies. 

  • Identifies new and/or alternate sources of supply as necessary to support product ramp, new product development, cost reduction requirements, and/or supplier performance issues 

  • Evaluates medium to long-term supplier capabilities in an effort to optimize the commodity supply base in support of capacity ramps, cost reductions, supplier reduction goals and objectives

  • Monitor commodity market trends; effectively reflect market dynamic in terms of supply,
    cost, etc. 

  • Supports, communicates, reinforces and defends the mission, values and culture of the organization 

  • Adheres to all quality and safety standards, support other projects and duties as assigned 



Education:



  • BA/BS in Business, Operations or Supply Chain

  • Management or Engineering with MBA preferred or a Minimum of 15 years of experience in manufacturing to include SCM, operations and/or engineering responsibility, medical device products (preferred)

  • Management techniques with an exceptional interpersonal and negotiation skills, ability to navigate and influence across the organization horizontally and vertically, without direct authority. 

  • Ability to think strategically about the business and establish plans that anticipate and account for future business needs, market trends and applying sourcing best practices (e.g. evaluating pricing models / benchmarking, product distribution channels, inventory management techniques, assessing industry landscape / market analysis). 

  • Analytical Skills – Cost Driver and Modeling, Data
    Analysis, Financial Analysis to support proper make vs. buy decisions. Lead
    Material Best Business Practices (MBBP) activities in coordination with costing and engineering to drive a competitive advantage for Outset Medical 

  • Strong leadership / people management skills / team building and ability to communicate with all levels within organization, presentation skills and attention to detail, maintain and update weekly cost saving roadmaps with monthly reconciliation to actual results. 

  • Must be willing and able to travel domestically and globally 25% or as required. 

  • Skilled in MS Office (Excel/PowerPoint), ERP System, Project Management, experience in ERP systems
