DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:



  • Provide strategic leadership of North American Import/Export division and North American Sales in terms of product education, product mix, and maintaining adequate on hand inventory levels and lead times.

  • Compose, maintain, train, and enforce company policy and procedure as relates to international trade.

  • Generate ideas, resolve issues, manage transportation problems, and participate in strategies to expand import/export sales.

  • Maintain, participate in, and occasionally lead contract negotiations with vendors, foreign customers, and freight companies.

  • Obtain, organize, distribute information, and train on product availability, pricing, and any technical information required from foreign vendors.

  • Manage and maintain relationships and compliance with Vendors/Forwarders/Customs Brokers/suppliers/staff and communications between foreign vendors/customers and Glen-Gery/Brickworks to approve confirmation of freight and understand delays that may occur.

  • In partnership with the Pricing department, ensure the annual review of import/export costs, quotes, price, shipment booking, and margin to maximize volume and profit.

  • Ensure proper processing of purchase orders and arrange logistics for import/export into and out of the US. Track order availability dates and shipping containers.  Track ETD, ETA dates and ensure accuracy of Buy, Sell, Move (BSM) software. 

  • Oversee tariff determinations and audits.

  • Maintain compliance with licenses, contracts, and agreements.

  • Assure import document compliance and retention control including review/audit of Entry Summary (7501) and freight forwarder invoices.

  • Manage and participate in Preparing/Review of export documents including Proforma, SLI, Packing List, CI, COO, and updating BSM software system.

  • Oversee, Process, and review foreign vendor and freight company invoices and approve for payment.

  • Communicate with warehouses on storage planning, container deliveries, verification of container contents to packing list, and organizing resources against schedules during busy periods.

  • Ensure and monitor quality and consistency of all Import products and manage inconsistencies.

  • Organize and manage stock takes and participate in inventory management, including managing aged inventory.

  • Respond to product inquiries from sales department and support/train customer service teams on Import products.

  • Provide and orchestrate solutions to import product complaints.

  • Participate in relevant industry forums and keep up to date with industry trends and developments.

  • Produce reports for month end such as invoice registers, price exceptions, marginal contributions, and sales volumes/trends vs. history.


REQUIRED SKILLS/ABILITIES:



  • Ability to travel domestically and occasionally internationally; up to 50% travel.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office; proficient in job specific software applications preferred.

  • Firm understanding of global supply chain, ocean, and airfreight required.  Understanding and adhering to the laws and regulations controlling the export and import of goods, products, information between the United States and foreign countries.

  • Ability to understand and convert foreign currency and unit of measurement.

  • Understand and participate in tariff code determination and record retention.

  • Ability to respond promptly and professionally to vendor or freight forwarder needs; identify and resolve problems in a timely manner, as well as develop or update processes and procedures to prevent future issues.

  • Ability to communicate and multi-task required.


QUALIFICATIONS:



  • Minimum 6-10 years import/export compliance and logistics experience required; 4+ years in a lead role preferred. 

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related business field preferred.
