Job Purpose: This position is responsible for overseeing their America's trade compliance in the U.S., Canada, and Mexico, ensuring adherence to relevant trade laws and regulations. The role involves working closely with customs brokers and trade authorities, coordinating data collection for legal counsel in trade case litigation, and managing reporting for CBAM and other sustainability initiatives. Additionally, the role coordinates product sales from their European operations to North America.
Key Responsibilities:
Trade Compliance:
- Maintain documentation and records for trade compliance in the U.S., Canada, and Mexico.
- Handle requests for information from U.S., Canada, and Mexico trade authorities, particularly related to trade case reviews.
- Act as a liaison with customs brokers on specific projects.
- Support trade-related activities, including trade actions and remedies.
- Ensure they meet customer requirements by reviewing and completing government-related regulatory documents.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for customs requests, questionnaires, and audits.
- Determine HTS codes for exports and collaborate with brokers for classification.
- Monitor import/export activities for finished steel and steel-related products across the U.S., Canada, and Mexico.
- Stay updated on trade actions and regulatory changes.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with Commercial, Finance, Government Relations, IT, and Technical Engineering teams.
European Products Coordination:
- Work with the Commercial Sales team to develop market demand analysis for their European products in North America.
- Coordinate and implement sales strategies for their’s European products.
- Manage sales and inventory forecasts for European products.
- Analyze pricing feedback and conduct cost-benefit comparisons against competitors.
- Identify opportunities to expand their Europe’s product offerings in North America.
- Maintain regular communication with their Europe and North American teams to exchange critical customer and product information, such as order status, pricing, delivery, claims, and market trends.
- Resolve customer issues related to European products.
Administrative Responsibilities:
- Submit weekly highlight reports and expense reports.
- Conduct all business activities in compliance with their company policies and procedures.
Qualifications:
Required Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Management, Economics, or a related field.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in trade, including import and export of products in the U.S., Canada, and Mexico.
- Working knowledge of trade documents and HS tariffs/codes for U.S., Canada, and Mexico.
- Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.
- Ability to work cross-functionally within a matrixed organization.
- Demonstrated leadership, professionalism, and a strong work ethic.
- Regular, reliable attendance is a must.
Preferred Experience:
- MBA in Business Administration/Marketing or Economics.
- 10+ years of experience managing compliance with trade laws and regulations.
- In-depth knowledge of the steel industry, particularly steel plate and coil products.
- Strong understanding of steel product HS tariffs and codes.
Working Conditions:
- Primarily operates in an office environment, using standard office equipment such as computers, phones, and photocopiers.
- Some physical tasks, such as filing and handling office materials (up to 30 lbs), are required.
- Occasionally operates in the field, requiring travel by car or airplane.
- Must have the ability to communicate clearly in person, on the phone, and in group settings.
- Occasional use of safety equipment and protective clothing when in industrial environments.
Position Type and Travel Requirements:
- Full-time, exempt position.
- Standard day shift, Monday to Friday, with occasional overtime.
- Expected travel 5-10% of the time.
- Onsite office presence required.
