Job Description

The Trade Compliance, ESG, and Risk Management Director is responsible for ensuring the company’s adherence to international trade laws and regulations, driving Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) initiatives, and overseeing risk management frameworks. This role requires strategic leadership to mitigate regulatory risks, enhance sustainability efforts, and uphold ethical business practices while supporting corporate goals.

Trade Compliance:

  • Ensure compliance with global trade laws, including import/export regulations, sanctions, and customs requirements.
  • Develop and maintain trade compliance policies, procedures, and training programs.
  • Monitor regulatory changes and advise leadership on potential business impacts.
  • Conduct risk assessments related to trade operations and implement mitigation strategies.
  • Oversee compliance with trade agreements, tariffs, and embargoes.
  • Collaborate with legal, procurement, and supply chain teams to enforce compliance policies.

Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG):

  • Lead ESG strategy development and implementation aligned with corporate objectives.
  • Establish sustainability goals and initiatives, including carbon footprint reduction and ethical sourcing.
  • Ensure ESG reporting compliance with regulatory requirements (e.g., SEC, EU Taxonomy, GRI, SASB).
  • Engage with stakeholders, investors, and regulatory bodies on ESG performance.
  • Develop corporate social responsibility (CSR) programs and diversity & inclusion initiatives.

Risk Management:

  • Identify, assess, and mitigate corporate and operational risks.
  • Develop risk management frameworks in line with industry best practices.
  • Implement internal controls to ensure regulatory compliance and business continuity.
  • Lead cross-functional risk management initiatives, including cybersecurity, operational risk, and crisis management.
  • Collaborate with executive leadership on enterprise risk strategies and reporting.

Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Business, Law, Sustainability, or related field (Master’s preferred).
  • Experience: Minimum 10+ years in trade compliance, ESG, and/or risk management roles.
  • Strong knowledge of international trade laws, ESG regulations, and risk management principles.
  • Proven leadership experience in a corporate compliance environment.
  • Experience with regulatory agencies, such as OFAC, BIS, SEC, or EU compliance bodies.

Additional Information

For California, Colorado, New York, Washington, and remote roles: The compensation range for this role is $154,340 - $246,540. Actual compensation is influenced by a variety of factors including but not limited to skills, experience, qualifications, and geographic location.
