Sumitomo Electric U.S.A. Holdings, Inc. (SEUHO), a Sumitomo Electric Group company, is seeking a diligent and experienced Trade Compliance Specialist to join our team in Charlotte, NC, or the Chicago Metro area. As a Trade Compliance Specialist, you will be responsible for ensuring that our company adheres to all US trade laws, regulations, and international trade agreements. Your expertise will be crucial in maintaining compliance, managing import/export operations, and supporting our global trade activities.
Job Duties and Responsibilities
- Monitor and interpret US trade regulations, export laws, and international trade agreements to ensure compliance.
- Advise internal stakeholders on trade compliance requirements and best practices.
- Support classification of products according to Harmonized Tariff Schedule (HTS) and maintain accurate tariff databases.
- Support classification of products, technology, and software under EAR and ITAR regulations.
- Interpret and apply US export control regulations, including EAR and ITAR, to ensure compliance with licensing requirements.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams including legal, engineering, and logistics to support compliance efforts.
- Assist group companies on export license applications, technical assistance agreements (TAAs), and other export authorizations.
- Conduct internal audits and assessments to identify compliance gaps and implement corrective actions.
- Coordinate with customs brokers, logistics providers, and group company trade personnel to ensure compliance of import/export processes.
- Advise and train employees on trade compliance and EAR/ITAR regulations, especially related to deemed exports.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, International Trade, Logistics, or related field. Advanced degree or certifications (e.g., Certified Customs Specialist, Certified Export Compliance Officer) preferred.
- 3-5 years of experience working in trade compliance with exposure to EAR and ITAR regulations.
- In-depth knowledge of US customs regulations, export controls, and international trade compliance requirements, including familiarity with ECCN and USML classifications.
- Experience with tariff classification, Free Trade Agreements (FTAs), and import/export documentation.
- Strong analytical skills with attention to detail and ability to interpret complex regulatory requirements.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across departments.
- Proficiency with MS Office Suite applications and navigating the CBP’s ACE portal.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Knowledge of USMCA rules of origin, documentation requirements, and compliance procedures.
- Familiarity with Defense Trade Controls Compliance (DTCC) procedures
- Knowledge of trade compliance issues specific to defense and aerospace industries.
Compensation may vary depending on a number of factors, including a candidate’s experience, qualifications, skills, competencies and location. Base pay is one part of the total compensation and benefits package that is provided to compensate and recognize employees for their work, and this role may be eligible for additional discretionary bonuses/incentives.
