Summary:
The Trade Compliance Specialist is responsible for day-to-day trade compliance activities while overseeing the trade compliance programs for UMBRAGROUP’s US business operations and will be based out of the Linear Motion LLC Business operations in Saginaw, Michigan. This position will support Trade Compliance management by ensuring export and/or import compliance with U.S. Department of Commerce, State, Customs, and other government agencies (OGA) regulations.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Ability to apply and implement U.S. Trade compliance regulations, policies, and concepts as well as OGA and Company regulatory compliance policies.
- The regulatory classification of goods and data for both export and import shipments as well as related trade compliance data elements.
- Properly classify parts, tooling, software, and technology using the Harmonized Tariff Schedule of the U.S. (HTSUS), the Schedule B, the Export Administration Regulations (EAR), and the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR).
- Research engineering drawings, specifications, and other data to analyze part function and material(s) of construction as well as identify design origin, reasons for Engineering Changes, serial effectivity, and suitability for commercial end-use.
- Assist in coordinating and developing detailed compliance solutions with other departments.
- Recommends and supports the implementation of changes to company compliance processes.
- Maintaining import/export classifications, tariff classifications, U.S. Customs entry, and licensing requirements used by the Company.
- Will be required to assist all functional areas of the company on issues concerning regulatory compliance, as necessary.
- Oversees and monitors all import and/or export compliance procedures relative to assigned job functional area (i.e. activities of assigned area(s), typically at both a project(s) and program level, to ensure compliance).
- Participate in compliance reviews, projects, and training efforts; act on behalf of management, as required.
- Some travel may be required.
Qualifications:
- Due to ITAR regulations, must be a U.S. Person
- Bachelor’s degree preferred in engineering, information systems, business, or related field and preferred knowledge of the U.S. Trade and other government agency regulations (e.g., EAR, ITAR, HTSUS, Schedule B, FDA, EPA, FCC).
- Knowledge of company policies and procedures to resolve routine issues.
- Knowledge of professional concepts, verbal skills, and writing ability
- Experience with DDTC, BIS, OFAC, ATF
- Expert and proven knowledge of ITAR Chapter 22 part 121-130
- Expert and proven knowledge of 600 series of the CCL
- Specialize in providing strategic licensing-based business needs, including deemed exports.
- Proficient in commodity jurisdiction and classification determination; and making determinations regarding the applicability of formal Commodity Jurisdiction or CCATS submission.
- The ability to respond to inquiries and handle multiple simultaneous tasks while maintaining a positive approach always is essential in this schedule driven environment.
- Knowledge of US export control laws and regulations
- Understanding of business unit marketing and contracts practices
- Understanding of business unit product lines

Preferred
- Expert in making formal presentations, developing, and performing training, and ensuring understanding of legal and procedural requirements at all levels in the business unit.
- Strong team member that can work collaboratively with others in a fast-pasted environment with demonstrated capabilities in problem-solving and/or development of standard operating procedures and processes.
- Advanced customer service experience in a manufacturing environment, preferably aerospace and defense
- Experience with forecasting, establishing, and tracking metrics.
- Previous sales and marketing experience
- Sales and marketing experience in the aerospace and defense market highly desirable
Language, Math, and Reasoning Ability:
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, drawings, set-up sheets, travelers, procedure manuals and government regulations.
Computer Skills:
Must be able to use the computer and computer software as required by job.
