Trade Compliance Specialist - Grand Rapids, Michigan

DISHER is partnering with a global foam cleaning equipment company in Grand Rapids, MI to fill their International Trade Compliance Specialist position. This company designs and builds chemical management and application equipment, specializing in foam cleaning solutions such as foam, fog, spray, gel, and more. They provide customized solutions for a wide range of industries, ensuring that each application is tailored to meet specific cleaning needs and optimize efficiency. This position is responsible for managing all aspects of import and export compliance programs, ensuring accurate documentation and adherence to regulations.

What you will get to do:

Monitor and interpret trade regulations, including those from the U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), Export Administration Regulations (EAR) and other global agencies
Manage and maintain HTS (Harmonized Tariff Schedule) classifications and ECCN (Export Control Classification Numbers) assignments for our products
Oversee customs clearance processes, ensuring timely and accurate submission of documentation
Liaise with customs brokers, freight forwarders, and other third-party logistics providers to resolve shipment issues
Develop, implement, and maintain trade compliance policies, procedures, and internal controls
Stay updated on changes to trade laws and regulations and communicate relevant updates to internal stakeholders
Collaborate with cross-functional departments including Supply Chain, Finance and Legal to ensure alignment on compliance initiatives
Maintain accurate records of import/export transactions in compliance with regulatory requirements
Ensure shipments containing hazardous goods (specifically lithium-ion batteries) are classified, labeled and documented in compliance with Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), Department of Transportation (DOT), and International Air Transportation Association (IATA)

What will make you successful:

Bachelor’s degree in Business, Supply Chain, International Trade or a related field (could be substituted for 10+ years of experience within international trade compliance)
3-5 years of experience in trade compliance, customs, or a related field within a global manufacturing environment
Strong understanding of global trade regulations, including EAR, ITAR, FTA and OFAC requirements
Preferred: Certified Customs Specialist (CCS) or Customs Broker License (CBL)
Demonstrates tenacity, adaptability, and the ability to take on diverse responsibilities across multiple roles.
