General Position Summary

Responsible for managing all day-to-day trade compliance activities in accordance with the FPI Customs Import-Export Compliance Procedure. Ensure the company’s adherence to domestic and international trade laws, regulations, and FPI governing trade policies. 

Essential Functions

Ensure Compliance with Trade Regulations:

  • Receive, Monitor and stay up to date with global trade laws and regulations (import/export laws, tariffs, customs requirements, sanctions, and embargoes).
  • Ensure compliance with local, national, and international laws concerning trade, including customs regulations, export controls, and anti-money laundering laws.

Develop, Implement, and Maintain Trade Compliance Policies:

  • Create and enforce internal policies and procedures to ensure compliance with trade regulations.
  • Conduct periodic audits to assess adherence to trade policies and procedures within FPI.

Customs and Import/Export Documentation:

  • Ensure that all customs declarations, shipping documents, and permits are accurate and properly filed with the relevant authorities.
  • Manage the preparation of Customer required documentation, including SLIs, USMCA, AALA, and certificates of origin.

Classifications:

  • Determining the correct HS code for products being imported or exported, to ensure the applicable duties, taxes, and regulations are applied to the goods.
  • Ensure that all imported products are classified properly to minimize risk and optimize trade operations.
  • Stay up to date with changes in customs regulations, trade laws, and updates to the HS code system to ensure FPI’s product classifications remain accurate. 
  • Conduct audits to verify that the correct HS codes have been used and that all regulatory requirements have been met, while making and reporting corrections if errors are found.

Training and Education:

  • Be committed to continuous professional development through training and educational programs to enhance compliance knowledge.
  • Maintain good practice of monitoring domestic and international news and form relationships with government agencies, customs officials, and legal experts to ensure compliance with changing trade laws.

Job Dimensions (Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities or KSAs)

Minimum Qualifications:

A deep understanding of Customs Regulations and Law, and Customs Procedures; Familiar with Harmonized System (HS) codes and their use in classification; and Proficient in using ERP systems and databases for managing documentation and records.

Education Requirements
  • A bachelor’s degree in business, economics, or international relations is preferred, but not required.
  • At least 1-year experience with basic knowledge of customs compliance and international trade

  • Strong written and verbal communication, organizational and analytical skills, and extreme attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment
