The Trade Compliance Specialist is responsible for ongoing development, administration and operations of Generac Power Systems trade compliance and operations. This role can comfortable provide guidance to other Trade Compliance team members on the areas of his/her expertise. In addition, this position will be responsible for facilitating all global compliance standards. This role requires certifications in the trade compliance field and good understanding of import and/or export Laws and Regulations.
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
- Subject Matter Expert (SME) in the Corporate Governance of trade compliance import/export programs such as ACE reports and metrics, Denied Party Screening (DPS), EPA import certifications, Anti-Boycott, Embargos and Sanctions, Duty Drawback, Duty Savings and Duty Minimization, AD/CVD Review and determinations, HTS Classifications and CH98 Special Provisions
- Develop and present training on trade compliance programs to all staff engaged in import/export related activity
- Lead internal audits and the Transaction Testing program and present results to trade management
- Support projects as assigned for a variety of trade compliance topics including but not limited to Corporate Governance of Freight Forwarders and Customs Brokers, and working with cross functional teams to support trade compliance projects.
- Draft Standard Work, Policies and Procedures and assist with it’s implementation and regular updates
- Respond to import/export email inquiries and collaborate with management to resolve issues
- Generate Trade Alerts to summarize trade compliance problems, issues and opportunities
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor Degree or equivalent work experience
- 7+ years’ experience in Trade Compliance, Customs Brokerage or Freight Forwarding role or have a US Customs Broker License.
- 4+ years’ experience managing global trade operations and interacting with Customs authorities responding to inquiries and addressing Customs Broker and/or Freight Forwarder inquiries including drafting and implementation of Policies and Procedures with training.
- Import or Export Compliance Professional Certification from an accredited trade compliance academy.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Working experience identifying and interpreting relevant trade compliance Laws and Regulations for the USA
- Experience using SAP or equivalent MRP
- Experience using Trade Compliance software
- Subject Matter Expert on multiple areas of trade compliance
- US Licensed Custom Broker (preferred)
- Foreign language proficiency (Spanish, Italian, APAC language)
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:
- Ability to identify and resolve highly complex problems in trade compliance using financial, analytical, and/or statistical models;
- Strong knowledge and understanding of U.S. Customs regulations, international trade laws and regulations (e.g., BIS, EAR, ITAR, OFAC), and global trade compliance requirements.
- Advanced understanding of global trade regulations and import/export processes in two or more countries
- Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, with a wide variety of internal and external customers.
- Advanced financial, analytical and negotiation skills;
- Previous experience using SAP or equivalent ERP;
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail;
- Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines and work Independently
- Strong interpersonal and communications skills in both verbal and written format;
- Knowledge of Word, Excel, Power Point, and other business applications. Effective organizational, analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Experience with Microsoft Office including Excel, PowerPoint, MS Teams and Word;
- Previous trade compliance experience in a manufacturing environment,
- Ability to coach and lead small groups on trade compliance projects
- Ability to draft, implement and train on trade compliance policies and procedures
