This position will handle day-to-day compliance activities as it relates to the analysis for duty drawback, transactional audits, import and export courier compliance and support in various trade and compliance areas including free trade agreement qualifications and certificate issuance, Canadian NRI program compliance and CTPAT program support.  In addition, this position is required to review and approve the regulatory screenings to support the continuous movement of customer orders.

Major Tasks and Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the compliance management related to import and export courier shipments including shipment monitoring, post entry reviews and documentation, broker partnership, communication and overall management, periodic broker reviews and as needed, process improvement plans.
  • Facilitate the transactional monitoring in GTS, including the review and release of shipments blocked due to Due Diligence controls and compliance reasons e.g. Denied Parties, Export Control purposes Administer the reviews and approvals for the End Use (EPCI, Compliance Letters, etc.) process requirements and communicate the regulatory aspects of these controls.
  • Develop, maintain and conduct internal controls including a training program (computer based and face to face) related to GTS automatic screening, blocks, reviews and releases.
  • Facilitate the timely preparation and filing of certain consolidated and direct ID duty drawback claims.  Further, this position will support in the preparation and filing of other duty drawback opportunities in compliance with the U.S. Customs Regulations including compiling related import and export documentation.
  • Ability to master and support; 1) The issuance of USMCA (and other free trade agreement) Certificates of Origin in compliance with applicable regulations; 2) The management of data input and reporting in the 3rd party CTPAT database and 3) The Canadian NRI process and the post entry review for Canadian import shipment compliance.
  • Support the U.S. import post entry and documentation reviews in the GTS portal in adherence to regulations and timely filing for U.S. Customs including communications and follow-up with broker inconsistencies, updates and data management.
  • Support the review, tracking, communication and documentation for the Enhanced Proliferation Control Initiative (“EPCI”) process requirements.
  • Support the review the trade compliance email inbox and response to the transactional compliance exceptions and internal customer related requests related to trade compliance matters including blocked orders, End Use Reviews and courier shipments.
  • Support the preparation of periodic compliance reports for U.S. import and export transactions using the automated commercial environment (“ACE”) and/or business analytics tool for compliance reviews and business analysis including the management and oversight of Covestro’s import duty payment program to U.S Customs, required reports to Tax related to imports and exports and other periodic business reports.
  • Document and sustain desk level procedures for Trade & Compliance job requirements

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree with 3+ years of relevant business experience
  • Experience in international logistics and/or international trade compliance
  • Knowledge of supply chain

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge in importing with U.S. Customs and other government agency regulatory clearances along with common knowledge of compliance requirements
