Job Description

The Trade Finance Banker will oversee promoting, managing, and developing trade solutions for SGUS corporate clients. They will be responsible for the origination and proper execution of trade finance transactions (mainly domestic and international SBLCs) and tailor-made trade solutions, working closely with the Coverage teams, with GTB/TRA teams outside the US and other Business Lines of the bank, to propose the best possible, innovative solutions and provide an exceptional service to US corporate clients. Missions will include\: 



  • Origination and commercial administration and expansion of the current standby letter of credit portfolio.

  • Grow the standby letter of credit portfolio through expanding the trade finance client base and exploring new sectors and solutions.

  • Cross selling within GTPS and searching for synergies with other business lines.

  • Working in close cooperation with the GTPS business lines (TRA, PCM and SG Factoring) and with the GLBA US Coverage team to explore business opportunities, expand the client base of strategic and target Fortune 500 US Clients and US MNCs.

  • Together with GTPS management, targeting short, medium, and long-term strategic goals aligned with the GTB ambitions and the market trends.

  • Structuring (Fronting, syndicating, risk sharing and distribution if needed the Trade Services (Domestic and International Stand By letters of Credits) transactions, depending of the nature of the underlying transaction


Day to Day Responsibilities:



  • Interacts and actively co-operates with Coverage Bankers, as well as with other business lines of the bank on a global basis, to maintain and foster synergies.

  • As Global Trade Banker, initiates, supports and further develops trade business with US corporate clients (Fortune 500 and US subsidiaries of strategic corporate clients of the bank), promotes capabilities in Trade Finance in and outside the US and develops business strategies to develop TRA global footprint across the group with US clients.

  • Creates value add for clients by using cross-selling opportunities.

  • Ensure “one bank” experience through first class execution in the US of trade services towards non-US based strategic and target clients, notably reissuance of SBLCs through TRA New York.

  • Be responsible of originating and structuring the traditional trade finance solutions (mainly Standby SBLCs) for strategic clients including\:

    • Pitching solutions

    • Drafting transactions term sheets/credit applications

    • Presenting transactions to management, risk department, compliance

    • Coordinating legal documentation drafting.



  • Maintains a deep understanding of trade marketplace and competition to monitor evolutions and new market trends.

  • Plays an active role in risk management, working with first-class banks, ECAs and insurers to manage risk mitigation strategies.

  • Maintains a robust and efficient control environment to ensure compliance with SG policy and procedures.

  • Follows up on operational issues with Back Office teams and support functions (Compliance, Legal, Risk)


DIVISION DESCRIPTION\: 
Global Transaction Banking and Payment Services (GTPS) Americas is composed of three Business Lines\: USD Cash Clearing Services, Payment and Cash Management Services and Trade Finance Services. GTPS provides corporate clients, financial institutions, Societe Generale entities and business lines with a wide range of payment products and services such as USD payments, corporate cash management services, check services, foreign exchange conversions and standby letter of guarantees.


SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:
Must Have\: 



  • BA or Master's degree

  • Knowledge of traditional trade finance products (L/Cs, SBLCs, guarantees), understanding of receivable & supply chain would be useful.

  • Experience in dealing with large multinational corporate clients and corporate relationship managers.

  • Excellent level of business acumen and commercial awareness, including economic, cultural, procedural, and regulatory issues.

  • Familiarity with profitability approach, understanding of the risk drivers of the trade business.

  • Ability to embark people and teams on the deals he is in charge, to convince and to address issues involving others and/ or management (in the US or in Paris) when needed in an appropriate manner.

  • Ability to cope with a matrix organization and to manage deals combining local and global goals and interests.

  • Ability to onboard all aspects, business, operations, and IT, with a pragmatic approach, considering the current environment as a starting point.

  • Excellent presentation, communication, and negotiation skills, including written, verbal, and the ability to deliver compelling presentations.

  • Ability to work in a deadline-driven and culturally diverse environment.

  • Fluency in English (French, a plus)
