The Manager of Compliance will help set up and evolve Mercury’s customs brokerage business.   

You will play a crucial role in creating systems to support our customs brokerage operations, maintaining client relationships, and driving client satisfaction. This position requires customs brokerage certification, in-depth understanding of regulatory requirements, ability to train associates, excellent communication skills, strong business acumen, and the ability to work in a fast-paced and target-driven environment. 

  

This role is based in Mercury’s Columbus location. 


Key Responsibilities: 

  • Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations related to international business on an ongoing basis. Makes necessary changes to internal systems and procedures based on evolving requirements. 

 

  • Recommends routing and handling for exports/imports for customers and for customer prospects. 

 

 

  • Makes complete import/export arrangements for customers including: booking container arrangements, insurance, banking, and selection of transportation companies 

 

  • Guides customers through customs requirements and processes by preparing and submitting documents, determining tariff and duty requirements, tracking shipments and classifying shipments. 

 

  • Resolves customer, process or system driven problems accurately and quickly

  • Helps importers and exporters understand and meet the rules and regulations put in place by the federal government with regard to the trade industry. 

 

Qualifications and Skills:


  • Must be a Licensed US Customs Broker. 
  •  
  • Bachelor's degree in business, logistics, or a related field.
  •  
  • Have experience navigating FDA, USDA, and APHIS import regulations. 
  •  
  • Have experience handling import activities for the Health Care and Life Science industries. 
  •  
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to deliver persuasive sales presentations. 
  •  
  • Strong negotiation skills 
  •  
  • Self-motivated and results-oriented, with the ability to work independently and as part of a team. 
  •  
  • Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks effectively, as well as to multi-task in a fast-based environment.
