We foster an inclusive culture and are looking for diverse, talented people to join Alcon. As a Global Surgical Sales Training Director, Surgical Glaucoma; you will be responsible for the creation, development and implementation of the Surgical training course curriculum, ensuring both the highest level of quality and consistency of training for all Surgical Sales associates.  In addition, the Global Sales Training Director trains all Regional Sales Training Managers and Directors through virtual and in-person Train-the-Trainer events, and provides quality control through attendance, observation, and counseling at training courses in all regions and is based in Fort Worth, TX. In this role, a typical day will include:

  • Working with cross-functional teams in Research and Development, Global Franchise Marketing, Regulatory Affairs, Legal, Manufacturing, and Compliance to drive executional efforts against the Global Marketing strategy in order to drive results. 
  • Planning, developing, and providing training and development programs, using knowledge of the effectiveness of methods such as classroom training, demonstrations, on-the-job training, meetings, conferences, workshops, and virtual and on-demand training.
  • Preparing Regional Sales Training Managers on the delivery of the training course curriculum, including training on cataract, vitreoretinal, and refractive procedures, and the corresponding technical, selling, and business acumen application for the ALCON Surgical product lines.
  • Develops the Regional Sales Training Managers’ technical product knowledge and clinical application, as well as the incorporation of adult learning concepts.
  • Provide direction on benchmarking and assessing the RTMs strengths and weaknesses, and provide a recommended developmental plan of action for continued training development. This requires co-training and auditing of the RTMs classes. Secondary responsibility will be to support the Global and Regional Sales and International Sales Training and Marketing (IMG) teams.

Key Responsibilites:

  • Development of the Regional Surgical Sales Training Manager’s technical product knowledge and clinical application; classroom training and the incorporation of adult learning concepts.
  • Benchmarking and assessing the RTMs strengths and weaknesses with a recommended developmental plan of action for continued trainer development. This requires co-training and auditing of RTMs courses.
  • Development of course curriculum for the surgical products, and quality control efforts to ensure consistency of delivery and content in each of the regions.
  • Implementation and support of the developmental training pathway for Surgical Sales Training representatives.
  • Performance consultation with the Regional Surgical Sales Reps to benchmark the impact of the regional training and provide recommendations where appropriate to enhance the effectiveness of the regional training process.
  • Support sales meetings, major conventions, and product launches around the world.
  • Conduct training needs analysis and assist in the development of training programs to address the regional marketplace needs.
  • Train the Surgical Regional Training Managers on how to teach their reps to demonstrate, negotiate, and sell our surgical products using the Surgical 360 Selling process.
  • Teach and implement Surgical Business Excellence and Surgical Consultant concepts, (Business Acumen), and reinforce their use in Regional Training Courses.
  • Works with the Regions to implement a Surgical Sales Trainer program, designed to provide supplemental training to newly-hired sales representatives and existing representatives who may need assistance.
  • Provide extensive backgrounders and field communications, intended for both the Regional Sales Training teams and the field sales force.
  • Develop training evaluations and measurement vehicles to provide the RTMs an assessment tool for evaluating their personnel in both the classroom and selling environment.
  • Develop multi-media training tools and distance delivery vehicles to support the Alcon Learning Academy, trainee self-study, and classroom training.
  • Assist in the clinical field trials of potential new products, development of training support materials, and implement the training launch for new products
  • Development of the Regional Surgical Training Managers in the utilization of the wet-lab/practice lab as an effective training tool for in-servicing, demonstration, and selling surgical products, including capital equipment

Key Requirements/Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or Equivalent years of directly related experience (or high school +18 yrs; Assoc.+14 yrs; M.S.+7 yrs; PhD+6 yrs) 
  • The ability to fluently read, write, understand, and communicate in English 
  • 10 Years of Relevant Experience 
  • 6 Years of Demonstrated Leadership 
  • Travel Requirements: 30%-40%
