Full Job Description

SUMMARY:

The Senior Import/Export Specialist will manage the operational level execution of all tasks required to achieve a successful delivery of incoming goods as well as outgoing shipments. This role will serve as the liaison between Logistics Transportation and Trade Compliance departments to ensure conformity with the Export Administration Regulations and the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR), and the Foreign Trade Regulations (FTR). This role will produce accurate shipping documentation while overseeing all aspects of the shipment process regarding documentation and various agency filings.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Administratively monitor all freight flow and ensure clearance and delivery of all import/export goods with regard to the validation of trade paperwork and filing of export information in accordance with internal processes
  • Evaluate all items for import/export requirements and ensure accuracy in all Management Information System (MIS) data element values and collaborate with customs brokers to provide clearance of all imports/exports
  • Perform all record keeping processes and maintain records of all invoices and transactions to assist with all applicable audit requirements
  • Assist with the creating, revising, and formatting of Logistics Transportation Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), Work Instructions (WIs), and Process Maps (PMs) as required
  • Revise and implement systems and policies (standard work) to administer documentation processes required to import and export materials
  • Coordinate and complete customs clearance documentation for clearance on overseas deliveries
  • Provide optimal level of customer services and resolve all shipment issues that relate to th clearance and agency filing portion of the shipment
  • Maintain and stay current of new developments in all areas of import/export compliance
  • Secondary assist in obtaining all required import permits and export licenses for all processes
  • Collaborate with various departments and obtain all documents required to ensure compliance with all import and export policies and assist with regular audits
  • File AES/ACE (Automated Export System/Automated Commercial Environment), as required, for export shipments
  • In accordance with WASS procedures on the use of ITAR Exemptions and EAR Exemptions, submit documentation to Trade Compliance for approval to use Exemption/Exception
  • Perform other duties as assigned

EDUCATION

Required:

  • Bachelor of Arts degree (B.A) or Bachelor of Science degree (B.S) from a four-year college or university; or eight years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

SKILLS & EXPERIENCE

Required:

  • 5+years related experience working in a similar role
  • Practical experience applying US Department of Commerce EAR, US State Department Directorate of Defense Trade Controls ITAR, and US Department of Homeland Security Customs Regulations
  • Working knowledge of international shipping documents such as commercial invoices, packing slips, airway bill, and export licenses; including consignee information, International Commercial Terms (INCOTERMS) as established by International Chamber of Commerce (ICC), harmonized tariff code (HTC) and nomenclature, country of origin, customs value, export classification, and license data
  • Strong planning, organization, analytical, interpersonal, decision making, oral and written communication skills
  • The ability to effectively handle time critical issues and meet goals despite unexpected setbacks, obstacles, or time constraints
  • Must be proficient with Microsoft Office and skillful in Microsoft Excel in particular
  • Position requires the ability to obtain and/or maintain a security clearance by the customer

Preferred:

  • Trade Compliance experience on a U.S. Government contract
  • Aviation and Aerospace Ground Equipment Parts classification experience
