General position summary:

This position will work in conjunction with the customer service team and provide all forwarding and documentation needs. This position is also responsible for the financial component of each individual shipment they are assigned to.

This position reports directly to the International Operations Manager.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Work in conjunction with the customer service counselor and manage the day-to-day forwarding needs of all export shipments.
  • Utilize the operating system to keep all files up to date, by using the prompts and making notes.
  • Make all air freight, LCL and FCL bookings, the day they are requested.
  • Be well versed with all ocean freight contracts to ensure proper service for each shipments need. Verify sailing, transshipment points and arrival times directly with the steamship lines.
  • Arrange all trucking needs for Air, LCL and FCL shipment. Monitor all free time and last free days to avoid per diem and demurrage charges.
  • Ensure variances are resolved within 7 days and keep write offs to a minimum.
  • Ensure each file is accrued within 7 days of packing, within the month it packs in.
  • Attend meetings/reviews with Account Managers regarding new and existing clients.
  • Be available for questions from colleagues, regarding problem solving or guidance in different situations.
  • Ability to work under deadlines and within specific time frames
  • Ability to multi-task and organize workflow to manage daily responsibilities
  • Ability to prioritize and re-prioritize as situations and needs change throughout the workday

Education & Experience:

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Highly customer service oriented
  • Ability to prioritize and re-prioritize as situations and needs change throughout the workday
  • Ability to multi-task and organize workflow to manage daily responsibilities
  • Excellent teamwork and interpersonal skills required
  • 3 to 5 years plus of freight forwarding experience preferred
  • High School diploma (Bachelor’s degree preferred)
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office
  • Ability to work under deadlines and specific time frames
  • Ability to develop and maintain positive working relationships with internal and external customers

  • Minimal travel required.
