Position overview

Industrial Scientific (ISC) is seeking a Global Payroll Manager to join the HR Operations Team. The Global Payroll Manager will lead the global payroll team and oversee internal activities and third-party payrolls for the entire organization with processing responsibility for the U.S. & Canada.

Responsibilities and deliverables

  • Provide people leadership through coaching, feedback, and performance management practices. Act as champion for the payroll team and intervene on matters that create roadblocks to individual or interpersonal success
  • Lead the International payroll teams in the review and compliance of pay and tax records for employees.
  • Lead full-cycle US and Canadian payroll processing and assist with exempt and non-exempt payroll transactions on an on-going basis.
  • Strong tax and payroll compliance experience across different states and provinces.
  • Project management & oversight for payroll implementations with ADP.
  • Assist with internal/external payroll audits and compliance reporting including 401(k) and Workers Compensation.
  • Ensure the processing of off-cycle payments for terminations by timely preparing and coordinating checks within state guidelines.
  • Drive standardization and improvement of payroll operations
  • Oversight in payroll input into month and quarter-end activities; including but not limited to understanding payroll GL reporting, journal entries and reconciliations.
  • Assist with driving and maintaining vendor SLAs
  • Assist and drive internal SLAs for employee and internal business partner payroll inquiries.
  • Perform other payroll relevant duties as assigned.

Organizational alignment

Reports to Global HR Operations Manager




  • 8+ years experience with payroll
  • Experience with major Payroll and ERP systems (e.g. ADP, Workday, NetSuite) ADP preferred
  • Strong understanding of full cycle payroll
  • Payroll experience in US and Canada with the capacity to learn other countries
  • Strong multi-state tax and payroll compliance experience
  • Outstanding attention to detail and ability to deliver accurate results under deadlines.
  • Experience with SOX compliance and procedures.
  • The highest degree of integrity and confidentiality.
  • Vendor Management experience
  • Highly analytical with solid understanding of general payroll protocols and accounting principles
  • Concise and effective communicator, verbal and written, with teammates and various levels of leadership as well as external parties
  • Excels in growth environments; versatile, capable of running multiple projects and able to lead project plans, dependencies, and achievements
  • High proficiency in Microsoft Excel.


  • Bachelor degree in Business, Finance, Accounting or related field of study
  • Certified Payroll Professional (CCP) preferred
