If so, we encourage you to apply to join our team. Industrial Scientific Corporation (“ISC”), a Fortive operating company, is seeking candidates for its Trade Compliance Manager position. The successful candidate will join the Legal Team supporting ISC, headquartered in Pittsburgh, PA, as well as Intelex Technologies, ULC (“ILX”), an ISC affiliate headquartered in Toronto, Canada.

The Trade Compliance Manager will report to the General Counsel and ensure that ISC and ILX are complying with all relevant domestic and international trade compliance regulations, rules, and statutes. The Trade Compliance Manager will work with functional teams across the business—including fulfillment, logistics, shipping, and sales—to ensure compliance with international regulations and increase efficiency in cross-border operations. The Trade Compliance Manager will interface and work regularly with trade compliance attorneys and specialists from Industrial Scientific’s parent company, Fortive, as well as outside counsel and, where required, government agency representatives.

The Trade Compliance Manager should be a self-starter who: (i) understands the internal processes and controls vital to comply with relevant trade compliance regulations, and (ii) has the ability to build relationships with internal business owners to implement and develop these processes.

Responsibilities & Deliverables

Assist with technology, hardware, and software trade classification for export (ECCN) and import (Harmonized Tariff Schedule – HTS)

File export license and CCATS requests

Serve as internal resource for information requests regarding import/export compliance

Assist with maintenance of import/export standard work and controls and collaborate with team members to drive trade compliance solutions for efficiency

Work with cross functional groups to acquire information needed for the export/import process and respond to broker inquiries

Supervise timeliness and accuracy of customs entries and releases and AES filings

Conduct post entry and quarterly auditing

Design and conduct trade compliance training

Draft and implement trade compliance policies and procedures

Conduct third party due diligence using screening software

Collect, enter, and present data using spreadsheets, databases, and presentation software

Perform project management support tasks to enable delivery of team assignments and objectives


Demonstrated ability in Global Trade with a good understanding of end-to-end supply chain processes, risk management and logistics

Knowledge of export control and customs rules and regulations is essential

Experience with trade compliance and customs in a regional or global context

Licensed Customs Broker or Certified Customs Specialist (CCS) a plus, but not required

Proven communication and collaboration skills; including ability to influence and communicate cross-functionally with all levels of management

Detailed oriented and highly organized; ability to multi-task several projects at once

Excellent verbal and written communication skills, judgment, creativity, flexibility, and excellent motivation

Proven business judgment, including the ability to anticipate the impact of decisions

Clear, logical understanding of problem-solving including Root Cause, Corrective Action, Countermeasures, Problem Solving Plans (PSP) and Action Plan development and execution

Ability to navigate through ambiguity and change; excel in a fast-paced environment

Capacity to be a change agent, demonstrating persistence and resilience when faced with challenges

Strong communication skills

Technical Competencies

Working knowledge and understanding of ERP/MRP systems and their use in a manufacturing environment

Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access


Proven experience working with US regulations governing imports and exports (including but not limited to EAR, OFAC sanctions, US Customs regulations and free trade agreements) with an importer/exporter or service provider


Bachelors degree is required.
