Lead International Customs Broker
Full Job Description
This position is the 2nd in command. The Lead helps the Manager oversee approximately 5 Customs Import Specialists who are responsible for clearing shipments in the US and billing those files. The role therefore requires mentoring, coaching and training the brokers within the team and helping the manager ensure they have the tools, skills, and attitude to achieve service standards.
50% Shipment Tracing and Documentation Handling: Handles half of own desk and acts as back up for brokers on PTO/Leave.
20% Works with manager to Implement Process Improvements to Positively Impact Efficiency and Productivity
15% Mentor/Coach and Train Customs Import Specialists o Review metrics and customer feedback to ensure mentoring/coaching opportunities are recognized o Provide consistent and timely feedback
15% Assist the team with resolving shipment and compliance issues as required. (I.e. missing documentation, delayed shipments, tariff compliance, tracking of US government trade policy to ensure that all benefits under current or potential trade law can be exercised, entry writing of customs along with pre and post entry audits, etc.)
Qualifications and Preferred Skills
- Excellent Excel skills
- Strong analytical skills
- Access skills preferred
- 3-5 years of industry experience preferred
- Customer service background
- Communication: Strong written and oral communication, negotiations
- Culture: Customer Service and sales focused
- Analytical: Understanding of revenue, expense, margin, basic math (calculate weight, density, rates, etc), data-based problem solving
- Geographic: Basic country knowledge
- Organization: Time management, setting priorities, multi-tasking, deadline oriented
- Teamwork: Ability to work with different cultures
- Results-oriented: Metrics
- Computer skills: Mainframe experience a plus, Microsoft office and outlook, Excel and Access proficient
- Education and Certification Requirements
- 4-year degree preferred
- Licensed as US Customs Broker
