Job Description:


This position is responsible for the daily management of export trade compliance operational activities. Key objectives are to ensure seamless flow of goods across international borders, minimizing Supply Chain costs while complying with government regulations to protect General Mills brands. This role collaborates across the Global Supply Chain, corporate functions, segments, and all regions.


Import/Export Compliance Operations

  • Accountable to ensure Trade Compliance excellence in the following export operational areas: Export filing process, classification/schedule B & ECCN, denied party screening, controls, embargos/sanctions, and recordkeeping
  • Coordinate export documentation process to include determination, creation, and ensure recordkeeping requirements are met
  • Conducts ongoing internal Trade Compliance audits and implements any necessary corrective actions
  • Act as a consult through the Export Go to Market process to ensure products can move into new markets compliantly
  • Build and execute cross border operational strategies

Systems, Data, and Continuous Improvement

  • Trade Compliance System and process expert in E2Open’s - Trade Automation Compliance System
  • Accountable for core process and management of key Initiatives to pursue process improvements related to cost, quality, and service
  • Develop and manage operational KPIs
  • Advocate of data and process sustainability to support Trade Compliance


  • Inform & sustain new export tools
  • Establish, improve, and maintain export operations process documentation and standard operating procedures (SOPs) to ensure compliance with company business practices and applicable laws and regulations
  • Provide leadership using Continuous Improvement tools to standardize and sustain project management processes


  • 3-5 years of import/export compliance operations, international business, relevant supply chain, finance and/or international experience
  • Strong understanding of business, trading practices and applicable laws
  • Ability to learn Export Operations with a systematic approach in GMI’s Trade Automation system
  • Results oriented, with the ability to work independently, managing priorities and complex workload
  • Ability to make decisions without all the details, evaluate outcomes and manage change in a dynamic environment
  • Strong communication, interpersonal effectiveness and cross-functional leadership
  • Process development and execution skills
  • Shows passion for learning and developing/applying new processes
  • Ability to influence change, strong change management skills
  • Integrated Supply Chain mindset


  • Working knowledge of Incoterms
  • Experience with Customs brokers, freight forwarders and carriers, and a basic understanding of Free Trade Agreement Programs
  • Personal initiative to deliver results
  • Willingness to challenge the status quo and innovate
  • Strong analytical skills and the ability to translate data into actionable information
  • Ability to adapt to changes in the business and operational landscape
