Department Description:

Operating in a dynamic and fast moving environment, Trade Risk is a product credit team and centre of excellence within Wholesale Credit responsible for overseeing JPM's growing Trade & Working Capital business. The team provides credit control oversight of trade finance initiatives which enhance clients' supply chain management and working capital efficiency. Trade Risk's primary responsibilities are to approve individual trade finance transactions, manage credit exposure, and partner with the business for development of new Trade products. The risk portfolio encompasses a broad variety of products including supply chain finance, structured trade solutions, export credit agency loans, trade loans and letters of credit with CIB and CB clients across the Americas region.

Key Responsibilities:

Based in New York, you will assist the Head of Trade Risk for the Americas with responsibility to evaluate new transactions, monitor the portfolio, implement/develop risk policies and coordinate training efforts on various trade products. You will collaborate closely with Trade Management, Trade Sales, Credit Risk, Legal, Compliance and Operations. This role presents a unique opportunity to partner with the expanding Global Trade & Working Capital team to drive a strong risk culture and independently identify, assess and address risk issues as they arise. Over time, you will develop in-depth product expertise across the firm's suite of trade solutions with support and guidance from your colleagues in this global team.   • Approve trade transactions within delegated authority across the assigned portfolio and monitor exposure
  • Provide risk management decision on variations from standard documentation and/or product policy & guidelines
  • Assist trade sales, GCB and coverage on requests to the Credit team for credit lines to support new business and advise Credit on suitability of product for a given counterparty or suitability of the structure at transaction level
  • Partner with key stakeholders to approve new structures, policy exceptions and control solutions
  • Interact with Trade sales team to voice risk views and solutions to transactions in the pipeline
  • Participate in Regional Risk & Country Committees
  • Partner with Trade Risk counterparts in other regions to share best practices
  • Provide training on trade products & associated risks to JPM internal partners
  • Attend Industry Events
  • Attend and contribute to various Business forums & committees where Trade Risk is a voting member

Essential Skills:

  • Minimum 4 years of experience in a related role (e.g. Credit Risk, Trade Risk) with strong credit skills
  • Demonstrated ability to operate in a time-sensitive environment whilst multi- tasking is a must have
  • Curious intellectual & business acumen with willingness to take a leading role in a wide range of initiatives and drive solutions
  • Excellent ability to communicate effectively at all levels of the organisation
  • Good interpersonal skills with aptitude to influence decision process and align risk strategy with business objectives
  • Self-starter with demonstrated track record in successfully leading collaborative efforts with other constituents who may have different backgrounds, risk understanding, skill sets and priorities
  • Robust experience interpreting and negotiating legal documentation

Desirable Skills (not required):

  • Basic understanding of key traditional trade instruments and their various risks would be advantageous
  • Experience in secured or structured finance transactions
  • Proficiency in Spanish or Portuguese a plus
