This is a remote role that can be based anywhere in the U.S. except California, New York, and New Jersey.

Job Purpose:

The Regulatory Compliance Specialist I works collaboratively with Q-Distribution and Q-Bike to ensure QBP complies with applicable international, federal, state, and local government rules and regulations regarding consumer product safety, regulatory compliance, and product testing. In addition, this individual is also responsible for maintaining and tracking all Q-Distribution product compliance-related documentation, QBP vendor agreements, and certificates of liability insurance.

Organizational/Reporting Structure:

The Regulatory Compliance Specialist will report to the Product Safety Manager. The General Counsel heads the Regulatory Compliance/Risk Management/Legal department and ultimately reports to CFO/COO. This individual will work closely with all members of the three-pronged greater compliance department (Regulatory, Import/Export, Logistics) and the Purchasing and Product Management teams.

Job Tasks, Responsibilities, and Accountabilities:

Main Thing One:

Q-Distribution Vendor Support

  • Serve as an internal resource on all regulatory compliance issues.
  • Work with the supervisor to develop educational tools and training materials for internal and external parties regarding regulatory issues.
  • Develop expertise in pertinent U.S. compliance regulations (e.g. Prop65, CPSIA, Lacey Act, MSDS, FFA, DOT Hazmat).
  • Develop expertise in pertinent international compliance regulations (e.g. ISO, REACH, CEN).
  • Research proposed domestic and international regulations applicable to QBP and proactively prepare internal and external parties for any potential regulation changes.

Main Thing Two:

Compliance System Maintenance & Development

  • Obtain applicable compliance, contractual, and insurance documents from external vendors and suppliers.
  • Work with supervisor and greater compliance department to develop systems and processes for document storage, tracking, and retrieval.
  • Update Q-Distribution buyers and product managers on the status of product compliance and documentation needs.
  • Perform weekly and monthly audits of Q-Distribution products to ensure correct, sufficient, and up-to-date compliance documentation.
  • Work with supervisor to research regulations applicable to new products.

Main Thing Three:

Q-Bike Support

  • Assist Compliance Specialists II & III with Q-Bike compliance as needed
  • Assist Q-Bike Softgoods Coordinator with Q-Bike softgoods compliance.
  • Serve as an internal resource on all regulatory issues related to softgoods.
  • Work with supervisor and Consumer Brands Compliance Coordinator to develop compliance tools and training materials to educate Q-Bike employees on regulatory issues for soft goods.
  • Work closely with our softgoods manufacturers and testing facilities to obtain necessary compliance documentation.

Job Qualifications:


  • Bachelor’s degree, or equivalent and relevant work experience. Previous experience in legal research is a plus.
  • Ability to quickly learn new software and technology.
  • Ability to effectively manage time and multiple projects.
  • Exemplary written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated interest in learning bicycle compliance and safety.
  • Ability to complete Hazmat training and maintain certification credentials.
  • Strong research and reading skills with great attention to detail.
  • Adaptable and willing to take prompt action based on changing circumstances.
  • Ability to use phone and computer extensively.
