USF Research & Innovation (USFRI) is charged with the central administration and oversight of the USF System research enterprise. USFRI promotes USF research; stimulates economic development; provides services and assistance to facilitate faculty, staff, and student research efforts; ensures compliance with research-related laws, regulations, and policies of federal, state, sponsoring agencies and organizations, and the university; and provides for the protection and promotion of intellectual property generated by USF System employees.
The Data Engineer III plays a pivotal role in operationalizing priority data and analytics initiatives by designing, building, managing, optimizing, and deploying data pipelines to provide curated data for key data and analytics product sets. This position collaborates with key business stakeholders, IT experts and subject-matter experts to plan and deliver optimal analytics and data science solutions integrated with business processes. This requires both creative and collaborative working with IT and the wider business. It also involves evangelizing effective data management practices and promoting better understanding of data and analytics. This position manages data integrity, standards, and best practices, including compliance with data governance and data security requirements, as well as composability, efficiency, and automation across our product sets. This position leverages advanced knowledge of appropriate data and metadata management services such as Azure Synapse, Azure Purview, and PowerBI, as well as operational knowledge of related infrastructure components such as identity, security, storage, servers, and networking.
Configures, and maintains multiple Database Management Systems (DBMS) platforms. Responsible for the creation, backup, and performance tuning of multiple databases per platform, including cloud databases. Create, manage, and upkeep connectivity of multiple linked databases to include security, data safety and integrity, and disaster recovery.
Configures, and maintains high availability integrations with university enterprise systems and vendor SaaS solutions. Develops complex Integrations utilizing SSIS/ETL's for several DBMS systems to allow for web service integrations, API integrations, and other bulk data import/export procedures.
Provide extensive over site over several reporting platforms, and provides datasets specific to operational units to assist in decision support. Creates and maintains essential reports, and dashboards and provides assistance to divisions in their publication. Manages and upgrades SSRS and Power BI implementations and validates data accuracy.
Ensure Azure cloud database solutions are secure, scalable, resilient, monitored, and auditable. Monitor, analyze, and report performance statistics, with a focus on increasing proactive monitoring of these critical databases.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, MIS or other field involving software and analytical training, and four years of relevant work experience;
OR a Bachelor's degree with no specific required field and five years of relevant work experience,
OR a Master's degree and three years of relevant work experience,
OR a combination of eight years of relevant work experience and validated training. Preparation for a relevant IT certification is considered to be related training.
Experience working with Microsoft's Azure cloud services and databases, SaaS web applications and databases, SSIS/ETL integration, SSRS and Power BI reporting.
Experience and knowledge with MS SQL Server Databases, and Azure Cloud Servers. An understanding in enterprise wide security, SQL, SSRS, Power BI, SSIS/ETL integrations, and database administration.
