Sr. Manager Customs Compliance
Summary
The primary function of this position is to lead and manage customs department, including the selection of service providers, negotiating services and rate agreements for customs brokerage activities; and to ensure Carhartt’s import and export program meet standards for US, Canada and all other global areas in which we sell goods. This includes assisting Carhartt colleagues and customers to execute successful importation/exportation processes.

Responsibilities
Coach, mentor and develop Customs Compliance team.
Budget and KPI Leadership: Oversee team budget by ensuring accurate monthly/quarterly guidance and connect marketing actions/investments to brand leading outcomes/KPI's to drive continuous improvement and align with overall corporate performance.
Manage selection of service providers and negotiate services and rates for Carhartt competitive advantage.
Develop and manage relationships with current and prospective customs brokerage service providers.
Develop a team to assist in establishing, documenting, and implementing a global vendor training program specific to the Carhartt Logistics Program.
Manage ad-hoc projects from development through completion.
Oversee the global processes and procedures, and ensure the standard implementation in all business units for: employee trade compliance training relevant to job function, due diligence processes, application of import / export licenses and exceptions, self-audit procedures, record keeping, document preparation, and processes that lend themselves to global implementation.
Monitor U.S. government programs and regulatory requirements, developments; plan and implement internal programs/policies that will ensure Carhartt’s standing with U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) as a low risk importer/exporter.
Oversee the development and maintenance of the standard operating procedures covering Customs compliance in accordance with the Carhartt compliance program. Recommend/implement business best practices and operational changes within Carhartt as appropriate.
Lead, plan and coordinate cross-functional departments and tasks to ensure compliance with local and international customs and trade regulations
Provide decision support on day to day compliance matters: North America, Central America, EMEA, and APAC as required.
Education
Bachelor's Degree Required in Business or Related Field
Bachelor's degree or equivalent years of experience required
Required Skills and Experience
- 10 years’ experience in customs compliance including Ocean, Air, and over the road transportation dealing with stakeholders, senior management, and external influencers.
- Certified Customs Specialist required
- Certified Export Specialist required
- Licensed US Customer Broker required
- Proficient in Microsoft Office
- SAP operating experience preferred
- Outstanding organizational skills
- Excellent attention to detail
- Excellent analysis, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills including strong presentation skills
