1. Primary Objective:

The transportation manager will be responsible for overseeing the logistics of our company's transportation-related activities. In this role, the person will be keeping track of transportation operations and ensuring that all policies, procedures, and safety rules are followed. This position is responsible for managing logistics, transportation, and supply chain activities for Express, LTL, TL, air/ocean transportation to/from Domestic and international suppliers and customers. Provides analysis and reports of industry trends, risks, and anticipated impact; and utilizes that information to ensure cost effective on-time delivery to the customer. Develops and runs annual RFPs to ensure we are paying competitive rates across all lanes. Provide relevant and accurate data analyses to support implementation of transportation solutions. Ensures no disruption to operations, service levels or customer expectations due to fleet or transportation considerations.

2. Specific Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage transportation activities for domestic and international freight.
  • Act as main point of contact for all transportation vendors.
  • Develop, review, and communicate procedures for transportation to ensure Vantage’s continued compliance, reduce lead times, and maximize customer satisfaction.
  • Direct and supervise the scheduling of inbound/outbound shipments to ensure most economical utilization of carriers based on service parameters.
  • Interface with operations to resolve any problems associated with scheduling and dispatching; recommend programs that improves the transportation function.
  • Work with freight forwarders, customs brokers, inventory control, and supply chain ops on inbound/outbound flow of merchandise.
  • Negotiate and build strong partnerships with providers leveraging our spend to drive cost efficiencies and high service levels
  • Work collaboratively and foster strong work relationships within the organization including Sales, Customer Service, Warehousing & Inventory, Procurement, and Planning. Assist other departments with coordination of shipments.
  • Responsible for the transportation budget as it relates to air/ocean cargo, as well as TL and LTL activities, and all related fiscal planning activities including but no limited to monthly accruals.
  • Develop and review performance using key performance indicators including customer-specific scorecards.
  • Enhance inbound and Outbound processes.
  • Direct investigations to verify and resolve customer or shipper complaints.
  • Collaborate with staff members to formulate and implement transportation-related procedures as well as company revenue goals and customer service objectives.
  • Comply with transportation-related policies, as well as safety rules, and government regulations.
  • Promote safe work activities by conducting safety audits and attending company safety meetings.
  • Manage the defined carrier that is providing services to the facility including meeting with local carrier representatives to discuss base transportation related issues, monitoring carrier performance, and reviewing current practice versus potential improvements by changing carrier mode or mix.
  • Develop and implement a proactive track and trace process to ensure all shipments are delivered in a timely manner; provide track and trace information to the customer is in a timely manner
  • Develop and operate an effective transportation information reporting system; ensure the accurate and timely preparation, processing, distribution, and retention of all necessary reports and records regarding transportation operations; and develop additional and/or enhanced reports to support customer’s changing needs.
  • Provide transportation support and assistance to customers as needed; participate in customer meetings; direct the receivers visitation program, including the furnishing of specific feedback to our customers.
  • Effectively communicate with associates, customers, and carriers in person, via PC, or via phone to accomplish necessary objectives.Other transportation and supply chain related activities.
  • Solutions require analysis and investigation.
  • Other tasks and responsibilities as assigned.

3. Skill Requirements:

  • 8 years’ experience in Supply Chain and/or Logistics, distribution, transportation and 3PL management.
  • 8 years’ experience in a leadership role
  • Knowledge of end-to-end Supply Chain, including Demand Planning, Import Operations, Quality & Compliance, Warehousing / Distribution, and Import & Export Controls
  • Strong Microsoft Office skills particularly Excel.
  • Ability to analyze data and identify potential issues to make solution recommendations.
  • Experience (including Haz-Mat) with international and US law compliance related to domestic and import/export activity globally.

5. Education and Experience:

a. A minimum bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, engineering or other relevant field. Postgraduate degree [e.g.: MBA, JD] highly desirable. Depth of experience may be substituted for formal or degree certification.

b. At least 5 years of relevant experience in Supply Chain supporting a site, region, or global manufacturing environment or relevant applied experience.

c. International experience a plus, particularly in global Supply Chain distribution, distribution center operations, or transportation systems.
