About the Role
As the Senior Export Compliance Specialist, you will ensure compliance with applicable global and country level export rules and regulations. Execute risk-based export monitoring program and support development of corporate strategies for export compliance. Analyze and monitor export compliance processes, drive continuous development cycle and standardization across the company. Establish and maintain export compliance policies and work instructions; review and actualize operations processes. Support external audits of government bodies and applicable quality initiatives; engage with and set expectations toward external service providers. Monitor applicable legal framework and translate into actions. Advise on HS code and Schedule B classification. Ensure export transactions are supported with correct documentation and are compliant with export regulations. Liaise between Harman business units and customs brokers and/or customs authorities on export issues. Review export sanctions and how they impact the organization.
Your Team
This role reports into the Regional Operations Leaders. You will interact and collaborate with cross-functional colleagues (engineers, finance, legal, logistics, etc.).
What You Will Do
- Ensure required export, statistical reporting, and legal documentation is completed
- Ensure the compliance of customs processes and customs authorizations
- Ensure proper customs valuation, classification, country of origin
- Manage denied party screening (DPS) process
- Manage global export sanction screening and review process and ECCN classification process
- Determine if products require export licenses
- Identify regulatory issues proactively and address implication for the organization
- Ensure that local risk management frameworks and processes are aligned with global ones and address risks
- Organize monitoring and audit of export processes and documentation to ensure compliance with trade laws
- Manage EUC (end user certificates) for both customers and suppliers
- Advising business on compliance requirements and related controls
- Create, assess, and implement Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s)
- Identify and integrate ‘best practices’ standards for the organization based on global cooperation
- Build partnerships with third-party customs brokerage firms, government agencies, and trade compliance service providers
What You Need
- Bachelor’s degree in Trade Compliance or related field
- 5+ years of experience in Import / Export operations
- Work in a global matrix organization and ability to communicate at all levels
- Areas of Expertise: Customs operations; export/import activities; documentation; denied party screening, export sanctions management, ECCN classification
What is Nice to Have
- Experience with Thomson Reuters OneSource or similar global trade management (GTM) software
- Expertise with automotive parts and consumer electronics commodities is a plus
- Licensed customs broker or export certificate
What Makes You Eligible
- Be willing to travel up to 10% domestic and international
- Be willing to work in an office and/or hybrid remote, with occasional trips into the office required (this could be on 24-hour notice)
- Successfully complete a background investigation and drug screen as a condition of employment
