Position Summary:

The Lead Counsel Senior Director - Global Trade Compliance and CCG Government Contracts, will serve in a dual role as lead counsel supporting Thermo Fisher Scientific’s Global Trade Compliance (GTC) function and the leader of the Government Contracts function for the Customer Channels Group (CCG). While operating under limited supervision, this role will partner with our GTC team and global business collaborators across the company to provide legal advice and strategic mentorship on import and export matters while compliantly supporting the growth of the business globally. This individual will also own the Government Contracts team for CCG and work closely with group and functional team members to support the continuing growth of our government business.

What You Will Do:

  • Advise and counsel on matters related to global trade compliance and government contracting
  • Ensure that Thermo Fisher Scientific conducts business in compliance with all Federal, state, local and international laws
  • Anticipate and drive solutions for a range of legal and business issues
  • Develop, implement and manage mechanisms (including leverage of other internal company resources) to ensure transparency and understanding of new legal, compliance and/or business risks and deploy appropriate mitigation strategies
  • Direct and coordinate systems and procedures related to global trade compliance and government contracts
  • Develop, implement and lead appropriate business processes, templates, and tools to support business operations, including the utilization of corporate wide contract life-cycle management tools and using available COE/shared service resources
  • Manage a team of contract and compliance professionals
  • Review, draft, negotiate and coordinate contracts in accordance with interpersonal and departmental policies and procedures
  • Educate and train employees on their obligations under company policies
  • Ensure filing of all government-public reports in an accurate, complete, and timely manner
  • Manage relationships with subcontractors and prime contractors under government contracts
  • Liaise with other relevant functions throughout the business, such as Finance, Sales, Procurement, Marketing, Quality and Regulatory
  • Handle outside counsel engagements
  • Support Practical Process Improvement (PPI) methodology and participate in initiatives as needed

How Will I Get Here:

  • Juris Doctorate required, and admission to a state Bar
  • 15 years or more of government contracting, global trade compliance and business Legal experience. Mix of law firm and inhouse experience a plus
  • Detailed knowledge and experience providing legal advice and mentorship on, U.S. Federal, State and Local government procurement, including GSA Federal Supply Schedules and U.S. and international trade compliance regulations
  • Experience engaging with U.S. and international governmental agencies
  • Ability to translate legal theory into applied business success
  • Strong negotiation abilities, interpersonal skills and business sense
  • Customer-centric problem solver supporting both external and internal clients while protecting the best interest of the company
  • Experience developing, driving and implementing legal solutions
  • Ability to deliver strong results with limited resources, under tight timeframes and with a high degree of accuracy
  • Great teammate capable of participating in cross-functional project teams to meet achievements
  • Occasional Travel required

Compensation and Benefits

The salary range estimated for this position based in California is $221,600.00-$332,375.00.This position may also be eligible to receive a variable annual bonus based on company, team, and/or individual performance results in accordance with company policy.
