About the Role

We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented International Purchasing & Customs Entry Clerk to join our operational team in Parow Industria, Cape Town. In this dual-function role, you will be responsible for coordinating end-to-end international purchasing workflows, managing purchase orders, and executing accurate customs clearance procedures to ensure compliance and seamless supply chain execution.

Key Responsibilities

  • Purchasing & Procurement Operations: Manage international purchase orders (POs), review proforma invoices against pricing and quantities, track order fulfillment, and liaise with global suppliers.

  • Customs Clearance & Compliance: Prepare, verify, and submit accurate customs clearance documentation (BOE, EDI, SARS eFiling, SAD500, certificates of origin, phytosanitary/health permits).

  • Tariff Classification: Accurately classify goods according to Harmonized System (HS) tariff codes and ensure full compliance with customs and trade legislation.

  • Landed Costing & Financial Control: Calculate landed costs, audit freight service provider invoices, manage deferment schedules, and monitor demurrage and storage costs.

  • Logistics & Systems Management: Track air, sea, and road freight movements, coordinate with freight forwarders and shipping lines, and maintain accurate records within ERP and customs systems (e.g., CargoWise, ShipShape, Syspro, SAP).

Minimum Requirements

  • Education: One-year full-time Shipping & Forwarding Diploma (School of Shipping or similar recognized maritime/logistics institution) or equivalent NQF Level 4/5 qualification in Freight Forwarding & Customs Compliance.

  • Experience: Minimum of 5 years’ hands-on experience in international shipping, freight forwarding, and customs clearance operations.

  • Technical Proficiency: Proven experience with customs clearance systems (ShipShape, CargoWise, SARS eFiling) and enterprise ERP platforms (Syspro, SAP).

  • Location & Transport: Based in Cape Town with convenient access to Parow Industria; valid driver's license and reliable transport preferred.

  • Key Attributes: Exceptional attention to detail, strong numerical accuracy, and effective negotiation and stakeholder communication skills.
