Introduction

A leading freight and logistics company based in Johannesburg is seeking an experienced Senior Export Controller – Seafreight to join their team. The successful candidate will be responsible for coordinating and managing the end-to-end export process, ensuring the efficient movement of export cargo through the international transport chain while meeting client requirements and complying with customs and statutory regulations.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Plan and coordinate the movement of export freight.
  • Manage the end-to-end export process in accordance with client requirements.
  • Process customs and other statutory documentation required for cargo clearance.
  • Ensure the accurate administration and maintenance of export files.
  • Process claims and resolve export-related queries.
  • Manage creditor disbursements and process debtor invoices.
  • Provide guidance and support to Export Controllers and Learners.
  • Ensure compliance with Customs Accreditation System requirements.
  • Adhere to the company's Quality Management System.
  • Undertake additional responsibilities as required.

Desired Experience & Qualification

  • Matric certificate.
  • A 2-year Freight Forwarding-related qualification at NQF Level 4 or 5, or equivalent.
  • 5–7 years' export controlling experience within the Clearing and Forwarding industry.
  • Proven track record in managing the end-to-end export process.
  • Strong knowledge of Incoterms and international trade principles.
  • Understanding of transport mode selection and carrier conditions of carriage.
  • Knowledge of the Export Control Act and applicable legislation.
  • Understanding of commercial, transport, carrier and statutory documentation.
  • Knowledge of customs and statutory cargo clearance procedures.
  • Understanding of export freight documentation flow procedures.
  • Good geographical knowledge.
  • Computer literacy, particularly MS Office and On Track.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent client service and customer orientation.
  • Strong time management and organisational skills.
  • High attention to detail.
  • Financial discipline and acumen.
  • Action and results-oriented.
