Customs & Trade Compliance Specialist

Location: Sparta, Tennessee | Relocation Assistance Available

Are you an experienced Customs & Trade Compliance Specialist
with a strong background in U.S. import/export regulations, HTS classification, and international trade? Our client is seeking a detail-oriented professional to manage customs compliance, support export activities, and identify opportunities to reduce duties and improve international trade processes.

This is an excellent opportunity to join a growing automotive manufacturing company
developing innovative interior and exterior lighting technologies, including solutions supporting the future of electric vehicles.

What You’ll Do:

Import & Customs Compliance

  • Classify automotive products, components, raw materials, and other imported goods using the
    Harmonized Tariff Schedule (HTS).

  • Research and maintain accurate HTS classifications and supporting documentation.

  • Determine and maintain country-of-origin information.

  • Review customs entries, commercial invoices, valuations, and import documentation.

  • Manage relationships with
    U.S. Customs brokers and freight forwarders.

  • Research and resolve customs entry issues and
    CBP inquiries.

  • Monitor changes to tariffs, HTS provisions, trade remedies, and U.S. customs regulations.

  • Support customs audits and maintain compliance documentation.

  • Identify opportunities to reduce duties and improve landed costs while maintaining compliance.

Export & International Trade Compliance

  • Support the company's
    export compliance program
    and international shipments.

  • Review export documentation and assist with export licensing requirements.

  • Partner with Sales, Customer Service, Logistics, Purchasing, and customers to resolve trade compliance issues.

Duty Management & Trade Programs

  • Identify opportunities for
    duty drawback, tariff mitigation, and duty reduction.

  • Support
    USMCA and other free-trade/preferential trade programs.

  • Monitor duty exposure and communicate significant changes and opportunities to management.

  • Partner with Finance and Logistics to evaluate the financial impact of tariffs and trade regulations.

Trade Compliance Program

  • Develop and maintain trade compliance procedures, work instructions, and internal controls.

  • Maintain accurate classification and country-of-origin master data.

  • Conduct periodic reviews of classifications and trade transactions.

  • Provide compliance training and guidance to employees involved in purchasing, logistics, sales, and international transactions.

  • Stay current on changes to U.S. customs and export regulations and communicate applicable changes throughout the organization.

  • Identify compliance risks and recommend practical corrective actions.

Qualifications

Required

  • 3+ years of hands-on experience
    in U.S. customs, import/export, or international trade compliance.

  • Strong knowledge and experience with
    HTS classification.

  • Understanding of U.S. Customs requirements, including:

    • Tariff classification

    • Country of origin

    • Customs valuation

    • Import documentation

  • Working knowledge of U.S. export-control requirements.

  • Experience working with customs brokers and freight forwarders.

  • Strong analytical, research, and problem-solving skills.

  • Ability to interpret trade regulations and apply them to real-world products and transactions.

  • Excellent attention to detail and documentation skills.

  • Ability to work independently and take ownership of compliance activities.

  • Strong communication and cross-functional collaboration skills.

Preferred

  • Automotive or manufacturing industry experience.

  • Experience with duty drawback and tariff mitigation.

  • USMCA or other preferential trade program experience.

  • Experience with ACE (Automated Commercial Environment)
    and customs broker systems.

  • Experience responding to CBP inquiries or supporting customs audits.

  • ERP and product master-data experience.

  • Certified Customs Specialist (CCS)
    certification or similar credential.

  • Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain, International Business, Logistics, or a related field.
